Actually the story of the Little Mermaid, writer’s fairy tale Danish Hans Christian Andersenfirst published in 1837, is very different, sad and creepy. In the original version, the Little Mermaid has to convince the prince to marry her. If he doesn’t, she will die and, having no soul, she will be lost forever. And in fact she is so she goes, or rather, she is saved by ethereal creatures called the “daughters of the air” who announce that she is now one of them. And goodbye love.

It is dedicated to the tragic and extraordinary protagonist a statue in the port of Copenhagen.
