The street news in Haarlem has been offering homeless people and a meaningful daytime activities for 28 years. The newspaper not only gave them a way to make money, but also a face in the city. Direct sale on the street and at stations created contact with the shoppers, so they not only received an income, but they also became a recognizable part of the city.

“Buy that newspaper!”

Yet the sale has been back for years and threatened bankruptcy. In order not to leave the sellers without work, editor -in -chief Anthonie Vermeer pulls the plug from the street journal and introduces a new alternative: street news.

The very last edition of the street news is for sale from 28 February. In April the sellers make a restart with street news, a newspaper from Rotterdam and The Hague that will soon be available throughout Noord-Holland. “Don’t just give them money, but buy that newspaper!”
