The kings arrive in Angola on their first visit to Sub-Saharan Africa

The Kings Philip and Letizia arrived in Luanda this Monday on the occasion of their State visit to Angola, the first high-level that they make together in Sub-Saharan Africa since his reign began in June 2014 and whose objective is consolidate the preferential relationship established by Spain with what was a Portuguese colony until 1975.

The plane of the Spanish Air Force landed in the Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport at 8:10 p.m. local time (same Spanish)where the royals were received by the Angolan Foreign Minister, Téte António, at the foot of the stairs.

The symbolic nature of the trip is reinforced by the fact that, since its separation from Portugal, It is the first time that a king steps on Angolan territory, where there was a civil war from its independence until 2002.

The stay in Luanda will be extended until Wednesday and will end with the intervention of Felipe VI before the National Assembly, as a gesture of the importance that Angola attaches to the visit, which follows the one that the head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, made to Luanda in April 2021 and the one that starred the Angolan president, João Lourenço, to Madrid five months later.

Angola, the sixth largest country in Africa and with a population of 30 million, It is the second largest oil producer on the continent, behind Nigeria, as well as being rich in minerals, although it aspires to diversify its economy and modernize its infrastructure, for which it seeks to attract Spanish companies to participate in the process.
