The snow on the roof of Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion forced the game to be canceled on Tuesday. And the next game is actually supposed to take place in Hamburg on Saturday.

Three Bundesliga games have already had to be canceled this year, will a fourth be added? This refers to the game between Hamburger SV and Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend. The game against Bayer Leverkusen in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion yesterday, Tuesday, had to be canceled at short notice. The reason for this was a possible safety risk due to condensation on the stadium roof that could not drain away.

It is still unclear whether the problem can be completely solved by the weekend, which is why the game against Gladbach is still shaky. HSV stadium director Daniel Nolte announced that the roof membrane will be checked for damage caused by the high loads this Wednesday.

“Condensation water accumulations and other point loads have also developed in other parts of the roof, also due to the rain that has now started. Unfortunately, due to the snow that is still lying in many places, the water is not draining away as desired. We are working to support it with pumps,” said Nolte. “We will work hard to ensure that we can open a Volksparkstadion that is fit for play and safe for the home game against Mönchengladbach.”
