It is May, which means that many salaried employees have also received holiday pay in addition to their salary. A trip to Egypt, Bali and Curaçao: many people already have wild plans with the extra money. But not everyone uses it for vacation. “I’m going to fill up my car sometime.”
Many people have already figured out what they will buy with their extra pocket money, according to a survey by Omroep Brabant. For example, Dzeneta will use everything for her children’s birthday. Rika bought a new bed: “Now my husband and I have a holiday feeling every day. Waking up wonderfully rested every day and no more sore back and hip.”
Lia also uses it for new stuff. “Bought furniture, paint, carpet and so on for my house! Very happy with it!”, she writes on Facebook. “Use for furniture for my first home,” says Jeroen.
Especially now that everything has become more expensive, the holiday allowance is a welcome extra for many. Several people use the money for everyday things, such as petrol and groceries. “Let’s see if we can survive in the pantry,” says Joke. “I went from a very negative bank balance to a slightly less negative balance,” says Marianne. “Had a taste of a normal wage for once”, Nick responds.
“How about paying for gas and electricity?”
“Fill up and go shopping sometime,” says Kevin. Stan will also use the money for groceries. And Jean Pierre immediately puts the money in the savings account, “Before everything becomes even more expensive and unaffordable.” Heidy saves the money for when it gets colder again. “How about paying for gas and electricity?” she says.
The people who have more money use their holiday money to take a few days off. “I’m still going to Texel and there’s a day at the festival. The holiday money can contribute a bit to this,” says Britt. Stacey goes to Austria and Jur goes to Curaçao. “I immediately went on vacation,” says Mario. “And from what remains I buy some shares, so I earn back this holiday.”
“One Way to the Philistines.”
Most people say they have spent their money on the same thing: the tax authorities. “I brought a large part to the tax authorities,” jokes Michel. Sabine is also not satisfied with the tax that has been withheld from her salary. “Apparently the IRS already had my holiday pay before it was transferred to me,” she writes. “Suddenly there is not much to choose about spending.”
Linda and Sjon express their displeasure with a joke. “Wonderful 3 weeks to Ironië, at Lake Ikkannie”, says Linda. “One way to the Philistines”, jokes Sjon.
