According to the NHL website, in the history of the series, a similar collapse has been seen only four times in the league’s history.
In addition to Laviolette, an assistant coach was dismissed Phil Housley. The replacement is not named.
Laviolette has been coaching in the NHL for over 20 years. He won the Stanley Cup as coach of Carolina Hurricanes in the spring of 2006.
