The Lansha aircraft had 14 passengers and three crew members, 12 of whom died.
Martinez performed garifuna music. Garifunas are an ethnic group living in the Caribbean Sea and Central American countries. They are descendants of African and American indigenous people who arrived on St Vincent Island on the slave ship.
His band Lita Arian was one of the first Garifuna bands whose music was published internationally.
Martinez received a lot of praise for his loud vocals and nurturing the Garifuna culture.
Martinez was also involved in politics and was elected to Honduras Congress.
