A container ship belonging to the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has left the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.
“A ship has made it,” said a spokeswoman for Germany’s largest container shipping company. According to tracking data, the ‘Tema Express’ is in the Gulf of Oman and is north of the Omani coast. Several media outlets initially reported.
When asked, the company spokeswoman did not provide any information about the time of the passage. She referred to security reasons. Four container ships from the Hamburg shipping company are still stuck in the Gulf. Originally there were six. In the case of a ship, the so-called charter agreement has expired.
According to the company website, the ‘Tema Express’ was still in the Gulf on April 7th. The ship must have passed through the strait in April.
Strait of Hormuz not navigable without danger
The company boss of Hapag-Lloyd, Rolf Habben Jansen, had only said on Thursday evening that there was no possibility of passage through the Strait of Hormuz and that they were waiting for an opportunity. According to the spokeswoman, Jansen’s statement was true and still stands.
In mid-April, two Tui Cruises cruise ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz. An MSC Cruises cruise ship also managed to pass.
The Strait of Hormuz is not navigable without danger because Iran has been threatening shipping in the strait south of Iran since the outbreak of war. Traffic has largely come to a standstill. According to experts, Iran’s actions violate international maritime law.
