Green rebellion against the CDU’s traffic turnaround. The own balance sheet itself is also meager. A comment from BZ editor Hildburg Bruns.

Friedrichstrasse in Mitte will only be a pedestrian zone for 500 meters for two more days. The first of the 91 wooden seating elements have already been removed.

The new CDU traffic senator ended this experiment for the time being until a concept for the entire Gendarmenmarkt area was worked out with the residents.

But 27 (!) new pedestrian zones are about to pop up. In Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, the local Greens councilor hatched this anti-car plan.

How exactly the restricted areas should be designed is unclear. The main thing is that the metal is out! The uprising of the Greens about the traffic turnaround à la CDU is currently great.

Even from the red-green-red times, you only have a very modest balance to show: instead of the planned 40 kilometers in 2022, only 26.5 kilometers were managed. The new senator wants to build more and safe cycle paths – let’s see.
