The Government has agreed this Tuesday to support Barcelona’s candidacy as the venue for the 37th edition of the America’s Sailing Cup, which will take place in 2024, considering that it is an event that will project the Catalan capital and Catalonia internationally and will help the recovery economic.
In the press conference after the Consell Executiu, the Government spokesperson, Patricia Plajahas estimated the economic impact of hosting the 2024 America’s Cup for sailing at around 1,000 million euros.
“It is the most important competition in this sport and one of the events with the greatest economic impact in the host country,” the spokeswoman stressed, pointing out that “promoting Catalonia’s image to the world as the organizer of this type of event only brings good things “.
In addition to expressing its support, the Generalitat has authorized the Department of Business and Labor to undertake the necessary actions to promote the candidacy of the Catalan capital to host this event.
This announcement by the Government comes a few days -it is expected to be on the 31st or before- after the venue that will host the 2024 competition is made public, to which other cities, including Malaga, also aspire.
