The Government rejects Junts’ plan to give tax incentives for the return of companies that left in 2017

ERC and Junts They see things differently again, this time in the economic field. The Government of Pere Aragonès has expressed this Tuesday its refusal to give tax incentives to the companies that left Catalonia in 2017 to get them to return. Offering these incentives is a proposal that appeared in the investiture agreement between Junts and the PSOEand that now the post-convergemtes have put it back on the table in the open negotiation with the Government on the three decrees that will be voted this Wednesday in Congress and that hanging by a thread.

Once again, ERC and Junts are at opposite poless. The match of Carles Puigdemont considers that these tax incentives must be given if we want to achieve, in the short term and effectively, that these companies once again locate headquarters in Catalonia after taking it at the height of the ‘procés’. In fact, the Junts spokesperson, Josep Riusthis Tuesday went a little further and an interview on Cadena Ser talked about how these companies “can be sanctioned” if they don’t come back.

The Government sees it in a completely different way and maintains the thesis it has always defended. President Pere Aragonès: Giving tax incentives to these companies would be a mistake because “would penalize” to the companies that did not leave. “It is neither contemplated nor has it ever been contemplated. Absolutely not,” the Government spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, settled this Tuesday after the meeting of the Catalan Executive.

Controversy over amnesty

Junts and ERC not only disagree on the issue of tax incentives. They have also been arguing for days about whether a decree on justice of the Government penalizes or does not penalize the application of the amnesty law. The post-convergents maintain that yes, because it includes a reference to the legal concept of “prejudicial questions” which they believe gives judges room to torpedo the amnesty. Republicans deny it, and remember that this figure has existed for years.

The Government, which is from ERC, insisted this Tuesday that there is no no danger for amnesty. In fact, Plaja has assured that he has mobilized legal services and that they have given their approval to the three decrees that will be voted on Wednesday. “There is no invasion of jurisdiction – from the State to the Generalitat -“, he assured. Furthermore, he has pressured Junts to stop “gesticulations” and give your support to the decrees, which you reject for now. The Government reminds that if the decrees do not prosper, the transfer of the management of the Minimum Living Income (IMV) to the Generalitat will be at risk.

The problems of the PSOE

The differences in criteria between ERC and Junts They are not only a confirmation of your permanent conflictbut they also represent a problem for the PSOE, since they further complicate the negotiation to be able to approve the decrees. An obvious case is that of tax incentives. Whatever decision you make, it will bother Junts or it will bother Esquerra. And the votes of both parties They are decisive in Congress.
