The Detroit Red Wings announced that they have acquired the player rights of the 25-year-old American forward from the Ottawa Senators Dominik Kubalikia, Donovan Sebrango and against two booking rounds, one of which is a conditional first booking.

DeBrincat signed a four-year deal worth $31.5 million with the Red Wings.

In his NHL career that started in the 2017–18 season, DeBrincat has played 450 regular season games and scored 373 (187+186) power points in them.
