Sweden’s former five-time winner Måns Zelmerlöw has hit the headlines again. The singer is suspected of aid fraud, reports Aftonbladet.
Child benefits would have been paid to Zelmerlöw between 1 June and 30 September 2025 in the amount of 10,600 kroner, or approximately 980 euros. The singer’s children did not live in Sweden at that time, but abroad. He should have informed the Social Insurance Institution.
– The investigation shows that the man had not informed the Social Insurance Institution that his children had lived abroad, even though he was legally obliged to do so. This has led to the fact that child allowances have been paid to him in error, the prosecutor says in the press release.
The singer’s lawyer denies that the artist is guilty of a crime. According to the lawyer, the act was not intentional.
– It’s about a few months of child support that shouldn’t have been paid, the lawyer commented.
– What I think is very important to emphasize is that as soon as this was pointed out to him, he paid back the child benefits that had been paid to him. So he has by no means benefited in any way, the lawyer commented For Expressen.
Zelmerlöw won Eurovision in 2015 with the song Heroes. Last spring, the problems of the virtuoso’s private life came to light when the Swedish media reported on the singer’s divorce.
The ex-wife soon made serious accusations on social media.
– I cannot let my children live in a hostile environment, submit to drug use, mental and physical violence and infidelity, the ex-spouse wrote on social media.
After the accusations, Zelmerlöw responded to the accusations in a press release.
– Unfortunately, this plea of mine has not been heard. On the contrary, false claims that I am a wife beater and that my children are in danger have been spread on social media. These claims are made by people who have no knowledge of what is true or false, the singer wrote.
– For those of you who believe that I would be dangerous or violent towards Ciara or my own children, I want to say the following: I have never threatened or hit my children or my wife. That’s the truth.
In April of the same year, Zelmerlöw admitted some of her ex-spouse’s accusations.
– Unfortunately, there is a grain of truth in the accusations regarding narcotics. I’ve been against drugs all my life, but two years ago they showed up on a tour bus. “Everyone else” used them. It’s so common in my field that it was hard not to try it, even though I know I’m prone to addiction, Zelmerlöw said in an interview with Göteborgs-Posten.
