The finals 2023: Yannick Flohé tops the competition in bouldering

Status: 08.07.2023 12:15 p.m

Third German championship title for Yannick Flohé in bouldering. The sports climber from Essen found the best routes at the 2023 finals and thus snagged the title.

After 2018 and 2021, Yannik Flohé is German Bouldering Champion for the third time. The 24-year-old managed three tops and four zones on four boulders on Saturday (July 8th, 2023). Second was Jan Hojer (two tops, four zones) ahead of Emil Zimmermann (one top, three zones).

The route setters at the competitions in Duisburg provided varied routes that kept the athletes pondering. Sometimes the slightly smaller and lighter climbers had advantages, in other places you needed a large span.

Flohé uses all his experience

Kim Marschner, for example, was the only one to conquer the first boulder up to the top (top), while the others only made it to the intermediate marking (zone). But Marschner injured himself on the second boulder and could not continue to compete due to a shoulder injury.

Flohé, world champion in combined in 2021, finally used all his experience and took the lead. By reaching the top of the final boulder, it was clear he had the title secured. Hojer, who ended his international career that year, moved up to second place with a flash (reaching the top in one attempt). For Zimmermann, who was only 19, it was the premiere medal at the German Championships.
