The Fenoglio method on Rai 1: previews of the plot, cast, Carofiglio

THEthe Fenoglio method is that of Pietro Fenoglio. From this evening (on Rai 1 at 9.30pm) the public will meet a new detective who deals with murders and the (Apulian) mafia. He plays it Alessio Boni and was born from the imagination of Gianrico Carofiglio. His literary trilogy (Marshal Fenoglio) magically transforms into seriality (as happens more and more often). In reality the protagonist who finds murderers and criminals (even if for his bosses they have nothing to do with Cosa Nostra) is a Marshal of the Carabinieri.

Violence against women: documentaries and TV series to watch

His winning weapon is patience. He hates guns and handcuffs. The Fenoglio method is based on the knowledge of human beings: Pietro scrutinizes them to the core, he wants to know every inch of their psyche and then ferret them out. Will viewers like it?

The Fenoglio method: the plot of the first episode

Bari, 1991. Pietro Fenoglio (Alessio Boni) is a Carabinieri Marshal who moved from Turin to Puglia. Here he works together with the officer Antonio Pellecchia (Paolo Sassanelli), his alter ego, and to the young Montemurro (Francesco Centorame). In the first episode they have to deal of the murder of a loan shark who is found dead in his house and with his jugular severed by a knife. The clues lead to Paolo Fornelli, a boy from a good family recognized by an elderly neighbor of the victim.

Paolo is hiding something and Pietro, together with the new one PM Gemma D’Angelo (Giulia Vecchio), understood it. But she must be able to make the young man spill the beans. A woman’s scarf found at the crime scene suggests that a female hand was behind the murder. Pietro is convinced. We have to understand who it is and why Paolo protects her.

In the fiction there is also the fight against the Apulian mafia in the early 90s

In parallel with the investigation into the murder of the loan shark, Fenoglio investigates something much bigger: the Carabiniere is in fact convinced that also Bari is infected by the mafia and that organized crime is no longer a handful of rival gangs, but a real one Bari dome. In the Army, however, it seems that only he believes in this hypothesis.

Something is moving. The Grimaldi and Saponara clans are in turmoil: one of their men has in fact disappeared. In the middle there is a certain Vito Lopez, who Pietro has been following for years. A real war between clans has begun to divide the city. After the arson of the Petruzzelli Theatrethe climate of terror and violence reaches its peak when the son of Nicola Grimaldi, the most powerful and ruthless boss in the area, is kidnapped.

What’s going on? The series also tells a piece of Italian history. And the climate that prevailed at the beginning of the nineties, in the period in which Falcone and Borsellino were killed.

The Piedmontese Marshal, transplanted to Bari, is a Carabiniere sui generis. He loves classical music, he adores Normalikes to walk, is always skeptical and often takes personal initiatives. He hates handcuffs, violence, weapons and the service pistol«he would like to handcuff everyone with their psyche – explains Alessio Boni – for him it is essential to have an in-depth knowledge of the human mind».

Fenoglio likes studying criminals down to the core to understand what drives them to certain actions. Patience is his revolutionary weapon to flush out the enemy. «You have to empathize with them and get to know them thoroughly to eradicate them”, so they said Falcone and Borsellinorecalls the actor.

Fenoglio’s private life

Peter has lived with Serena for many years (Giulia Bevilacqua), a woman who can make him smile and who understands him completely. «Serena is an independent and ironic woman – the actress describes her – his relationship with Pietro is modern, based on respect, freedom and dialogue».

There is complicity between the two, but Pietro has his own time, work absorbs him. Serena knows this. At the end of the episode, however, Fenoglio (that’s what her better half also calls him) has a plan to surprise her.
