The European Court of Human Rights receives considerably more complaints about Belgium, especially about the reception of asylum seekers

The European Court of Human Rights got some serious extra work last year. The number of cases to be handled increased by 3 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. This is partly due to the explosive growth (+61 percent) in the number of requests about Belgium, as revealed today in the annual report of the ECtHR. The Court bases itself on the number of new requests assigned to one or more judges within the Court in the course of 2022.
