“Only 3 songs left and I am wider your ass”: Eagles dispute on the open stage

On July 31, 1980, During a concert by the Eagles in Long Beach, California, a serious dispute between singer Glenn Frey and guitarist Don Felder. During the show, the two signaled several times that they would get a good fight after the performance.

“Only three songs left and then I sew your ass, my friend”, Frey is said to have said to fields between the songs “Take it easy” and “Life in the Fast Lane”. Technicians had problems switching off the microphone in good time so that the audience did not notice what was going on there.

At that time, the dispute became a fight that threatened to break out even on the open stage. The musicians were dealt with in this way. Finally, fields ran off the stage and there was actually a handgam between, whereby fields grabbed a guitar and let them circle over the head of Frey several times. The other band members screamed and tried to slow down the colleagues together with the roadies. Finally, Felder shouted away with the next sedan.

The history of the Eagles was over for the time being. Frey and fields mixed their next album on the east and west coast of the USA so that they didn’t have to get in the way.

In the documentary “History of the Eagles” by Australian director Alison Ellwood, the incident can be traced again with a recording of the concert.

In 1994 the Eagles came together for a few years, brought albums out and went on tour. After a resusceptible dispute over the royalties, fields have finally been part of the band since 2001. The original line-up is only Henley. In 1975 Joe Walsh replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, bassist Tim Schmit joined Randy Meisner in 1977.
