According to Independer, the number of loans taken out has remained roughly the same compared to the first five months of last year. But with the loan applications, the average amount is therefore lower this year.
Contradictory
“At first glance, it seems contradictory: life is becoming more and more expensive. You would then expect people to seek financial help faster if they make ends meet,” says insurance expert Marga Lankreijer-Kos. “But the figures show that people are becoming more critical of their expenses.”
At the same time, Lankreijer-Kos can also imagine that consumers become more careful with their expenses if everything becomes constantly more expensive. “An expensive car or new kitchen often feels less urgent if you have it less wide.”
Frisians and Zeelanders borrow more money
Less money is borrowed in all provinces, except in Friesland, Utrecht and Zeeland. On average, residents of Flevoland borrow the most: 16,578 euros.
Students borrow and work less since the Basic grant reintroduction
Almost 40 percent of the loan applications at Independer is for a new car. About 30% of applicants want to borrow for extra financial space and another 15% for a housing renovation.
