The court recognized the legal registration of Navalny as an extremist

The Petushinsky District Court of the Vladimir Region dismissed Alexei Navalny’s claim against Correctional Colony No. 2 to recognize him as prone to extremism. This was reported to RBC in the press service of the court.

Navalny was registered in the colony as prone to extremism and terrorism in October last year. Previously, he was considered prone to escape, but they decided to remove him from the corresponding register. Navalny noted that the new status of an extremist imposes fewer “duties” on him, since those “prone to escape,” for example, are required to record a video every two hours, confirming that they are in a colony.

The lawyer of the oppositionist Olga Mikhailova then stated that the assignment of the status of a terrorist and extremist to Navalny was unreasonable. “If they [комиссия ИК, присвоившая статус] believe that a criminal case has been opened under an extremist article against Navalny, then we can say that he has not even been charged under this article. And on what basis the colony could assign this status is completely incomprehensible, ”she said and added that such a decision of the commission would be appealed.

A criminal case on the creation and leadership of an extremist community in connection with the activities of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (recognized as a foreign agent and an extremist organization, banned in Russia) was initiated in September 2021. In January of this year, the defendants in the case, including not only Navalny, but also his FBK associates Lyubov Sobol, Georgy Alburov, Ruslan Shaveddinov and others, were entered by Rosfinmonitoring into the register of terrorists and extremists.

Court refuses to change Navalny’s sentence for defamation of veteran

Navalny is serving a sentence in a Vladimir colony in the Yves Rocher case. In February 2021, his probation was replaced with a real one – 3.5 years. The judge took into account the period that Navalny spent under house arrest, and the period of stay in the colony was reduced to two years and eight months. The oppositionist should be released at the end of July – beginning of August 2023.
