Vicky Krieps is Elisabeth (photo by Felix Vratny).

Elisabeth de Wittelsbach, Empress Sissi, struggles and suffers every day to get into the corset. His waistline is carefully scrutinized and measured. The metaphor is discovered in the film by the Austrian director strongly desired by her interpreter.

Intolerant of court life and refractory to the pedestal (like Lady Diana in Pablo Larraín’s film and, before that, Marie Antoinette according to Sofia Coppola), she seeks her own three-dimensionality in an anachronistic world that would always like her in profile.

Portrait of a melancholic and frankly unbearable womanbut not without tension and malaise, presented at Cannes, is the Austrian candidate for an Oscar.
