The first medical examinations have now been carried out and the porpoises have been given the names Jantje and Roelof, after their finders. Now volunteers keep an eye on them. “Until they can swim independently again,” says Jeroen. “Then we will ensure that we can release them again as quickly as possible.”
Recovery takes several months
This is expected to take several months. “They are making swimming movements, which is very positive, but they cannot yet swim independently without support. They will first have to gain strength before we can release them.”
Last month there was great sadness at SOS Dolfijn. The stranded dolphin Djay-Lynn was cared for 24 hours a day after it became stranded at the Frisian Wierumbut died.
