The League has agreed to reduce the pressure to 50% to take advantage when a transfer is carried out

The limit can reach 60% in the case of departures of players that represent 5% or more of the salary mass of the squad

La Liga clubs have decided to slightly lower the restrictions imposed by the wage bill limit regulations of the squads with the aim of allowing Spanish teams to be more competitive in the summer transfer market. With the reformulation of the norm, the part of the savings that can be used for transfers goes from 40 to 50% for the 2023/24 season.

To take this step forward, as explained by Cadena Cope, the twenty La Liga clubs have modified article 100 of their regulations. From now on, entities that exceed the salary limit will be authorized to allocate up to 60% of the salary mass money they save with a transfer to sign new players.

The clubs of the League have received the green light from president Javier Tebas and his executive team to reduce economic control facing the transfer market that officially starts on July 1. This increase in the margin to 50% should help to reactivate a transfer market that has had practically no activity since the League has found itself without sufficient financial muscle, not to deal with the avalanche of millions of euros from Saudi Arabia or the MLS, but to compete with the other major European Leagues, with the Premier at the helm.

Barça will take advantage of the new salary limit

One of the clubs that will benefit from the measure is Barça that in recent years it has been very limited by exceeding the salary limit established by the aforementioned article 100. The measure opens the door to making it a little easier for them to register, not only for footballers who had renewed their contract (Araujo, Gavi , Sergi Roberto or Balde) but also new signings like Ilkay Gündogan.

With the new situation, the clubs will be able to use 50% of the money saved in salary mass when making a transfer; a figure that will increase up to 60% if the contract of the transferred player represented more than 5% of the salary mass. At Barça this has been the case of captain Sergio Busquets.
