A small circle of family members, friends and closest employees said goodbye to the Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani at a funeral service.
Armanis life and business partners Leo Dell’orco as well as his sister, nieces and also his nephew took part in the private ceremony in the church of the small town of Rivalta near his birthplace Piacenza in northern Italy.
Armani died last Thursday at the age of 91. At the weekend, thousands had said goodbye to the coffin of the fashion designer, which was laid out at the Armani company seat in the Milan metropolis. Among them was Italian prominence like the fashion designer Donatella Versace, the Fiat heritage John Elkann and the composer Ludovico Eintaudi.
Rivalta was closed to tourists and visitors several hours before the funeral service. When the coffin was driven in front of the church in the afternoon, some people gathered on the side of the road and applauded.
Out of respect for his life’s achievement, all Armani shops from 3 p.m. joined for the rest of the day. The billion dollar group has more than 600 boutiques around the world. “To keep in memory of Mr. Armani, the shops of the group remain closed today on September 8, 2025, on the occasion of his funeral from 3:00 p.m. to the end of the day,” it said on a sign in front of a branch at Düsseldorf Königsallee.
