The city of Ostend will save 40,000 euros thanks to new library lighting

From August 1, 2022 to November 2022, the entire library lighting was replaced by sustainable LED lamps. The new lighting is digitally controlled on the basis of a number of scenarios, whereby employees can set the light intensity separately for each room. Thanks to the new control, the comfort for the visitor increases.

Savings on energy and maintenance

The new lighting will provide an estimated electricity savings of 97,165 kWh per year. This is immediately good for about 21 tons of CO2 reduction and an annual saving of more than 41,000 euros at current energy prices.

Unique and ambitious project without additional resources

These works are part of the ambitious Energy Management Plan II in collaboration with Fluvius. 42 energy interventions are planned in no fewer than 28 city buildings. The aim of the plan is to drastically reduce the city’s consumption through energy-saving measures and the generation of renewable energy. All works will take place over the next three years. In this way, the City of Ostend is helping to build a climate-neutral future as described in the climate plan ‘Livable Ostend’.

Support from the Province of West Flanders

Placing the new, sustainable lighting in the library is an investment of 462,623 euros. For this, the City of Ostend can count on a subsidy of 100,000 euros from the province of West Flanders.
