The city of Ostend becomes a partner of the European Disability Card

The City of Ostend has been offering leisure benefits for people with a disability for some time now, but by registering as an official partner now, it is calling on the broad leisure field to also think about inclusion for people with a disability and to become a partner of the EDC card.

Discount

With the card they want to ensure that leisure activities are more accessible for people with disabilities. Belgium submitted the map proposal in September 2015 and an agreement was signed with the European Commission in 2015.

With the card, people with disabilities can get discounts or use wheelchair accessible places and/or an audio or visio guide in many European countries.

‘t Leeshuus, a second-hand book café with a social approach on the Groentemarkt, has already responded to the City’s request and will also register as a partner. Upon presentation of the card, holders receive the same benefits for activities as people with an UiTPAS opportunity rate (for example choosing books for free).

Request card

Persons are eligible if they are recognized by the Flemish Agency for Persons with Disabilities (VAPH) or by the Federal Public Service Social Security.

Even if persons have a child who is eligible for a care allowance for children with special support needs, they are entitled to a EDC card.
