The center of Purmerend has been designated a safety risk area during the late summer fair

During the late summer fair in Purmerend, the city center will be designated as a safety risk area, according to Mayor Van Selm. The measure allows the police to carry out preventive searches in the area. The fair is from October 18 to 22.

The measure is a first for Purmerend. But according to Mayor Van Selm, the measure also occurs in other places: “Anyone who visits a concert, for example, knows that there is also supervision there and security guards can look in your bag. We do this to keep the late summer fair safe.”

The decision applies from next Wednesday to Sunday, October 22.

Knife ban

The mayor previously also imposed a knife ban after a series of violent incidents in the city last July.
