Former president María Estela “Isabelita” Martínez de Perón turned 95 years old at her residence in Villafranca del Castillo, in the Community of Madrid, where she has lived since the beginning of the 1980s, after leaving Argentina in 1981: after the death of Juan Domingo Perón, she assumed the Presidency of the Nation and was arrested after the military coup of 1976, remaining deprived of her freedom for more than five years under the last dictatorship. civil-military.
The anniversary took place in a strictly private setting. Since his arrival in Spain, Martínez de Perón has maintained a low profile and a life marked by isolation, with few public appearances and very limited social contact, a characteristic that manifested itself again during this celebration.
The meeting was limited and was attended by some Argentine residents in Spain and representatives of cultural organizations that in recent years have claimed their role. In 2024 he received at his home the “Hispanic Award 2023”, awarded by the Spanish association Preserva, in one of the few public recognitions that he accepted privately.
