THELars von Trier’s cinema seems to arise from a fracture between roots and rebellion, destiny and freedom. In his astrological sky this tension is evident. The sign of Taurus speaks of family, matter, creative obstinacy. But Mars in Aquarius stands out to counter itthe matrix of an author who breaks the mold and pushes a cinema against the current, capable of questioning aesthetics and morality.
In the background, the ambition of his Jupiter in Leo shinesfar from the stereotypes of easy glory: in his films greatness often arises from pain, sacrifice, personal demons. This intertwining of forces has generated extraordinary works like in ’96 The waves of destinyan absolute masterpiece: a story of love and martyrdom that seems to move like a tide, between faith and fate.
Years later, with the film Melancholiathe director transforms the end of the world into a meditation on depression and the fear of annihilation: a disturbing parallel between personal destiny and the destiny of humanity.

There is an astrological detail that explains the rift between Uranus and its Moon: only in 1995, von Trier discovers from his dying mother that his real father is not the man who raised him, but Fritz Hartmanndescendant of a family of composers. His mother had chosen him because she wanted artistic geniuses for her son.
The director will try to meet him now in his nineties, without ever reaching a real relationship. That the origin of that tormented creativity also lives there? Maybe. The waves of destiny, and the silent flow of the stars, seem to suggest it.
