The 39th European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics will start in Azerbaijan on May 17th. SWR Sport will broadcast the all-around final live on Saturday, May 20, from 1:40 p.m.
A year ago, a 15-year-old gymnast from the federal base in Fellbach-Schmiden won historic medals. After more than four decades, Darja Varfolomeev won bronze in the all-around and clubs at the European Championships in Israel.
Since then, the student has stood on the podium at almost every competition. At the World Championships in Sofia, Varfolomeev won five medals: world champion with clubs, vice world champion with ball, all-around and with the team, plus bronze with hoop.

At the European Championships in Azerbaijan, the 16-year-old is one of the top favorites for gold, silver and bronze in the all-around, but also in the individual apparatus finals. Margarita Kolosov, also from the federal base in Schmiden, was in top form this year. For both gymnasts, these European Championships are the start of the “Road to Paris” to the Olympic Games in 2024.
