The Aachen fashion chain wants to comment on Kaufhof takeovers by Friday

The Aachen fashion group, potentially interested in the continuation of the Galeria Kaufhof branches threatened with closure, wants to comment on the future of the stores in Coburg and Nuremberg-Langwasser by Friday. “I assume that we can and will comment on both locations in the next 48 hours,” said managing director Friedrich Göbel on Wednesday when asked by dpa.

Göbel said a week ago that he was interested in up to 35 houses nationwide. He promised that “all employees in the affected branches would be offered the opportunity to work for us.”

Aachener currently operates seven branches in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein. Göbel was previously the head of the fashion chain Sinn.

Galeria wants to close 47 of the last 129 department stores. Thousands of jobs are also to be cut in the course of the ongoing insolvency proceedings. The workers are protesting against the closures with the support of the Verdi union. Protests are planned for Thursday in Nuremberg, among other places. (dpa)
