Gianni Decenzo is the classic example of a supporting actor that is getting better and better. And now is irreplaceable in “Cobra Kai”.
09 Aisha Robinson (Nicole Brown)
Incredible that the “Cobra Kai” authors found no space in the series for Aisha “and that they are missing from season 4. No more space? How can that be? Aisha was more than just a “good soul” for Samantha Larusso. Together with Demetri, she was one of the characters with the biggest climb. From the bullying victim to the fighter woman who can choose her friends.
08 Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto)
This was the only man who ever wanted to kill Daniel Larusso (in contrast to Terry Silver, he just wanted to ruin him). The purified, shamped, possibly most capable of all “Karate Kid” and “Cobra Kai” fighter (also Silver can only switch it off with a weapon) has become a comic relief. Is that a shame? No, he is simply a victim of the institutionalized methodology of old Japanese school, to ask for forgiveness that they once suffered suffering. His first appearance in “Cobra Kai” delivers a brilliant cliffhanger. And Daniel’s fear that Chozen would still promote him to the grave with his karate master technology of the limb 30 years later. And the second cliffhanger when Daniel asks for support at the end of season 4 at the Mister Miyagis grave? Here too, Chozen is the King.
07 John Kreese (Martin Kove)
In addition to Daniel Larusso and Mister Miyagi, the only figure playing in all three “Karate Kid” films. Kreese is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, which Netflix, after taking over the production from season 3, has been cobbled into a elaborate jungle biography, in flashbacks. His trauma was created by the accident death of his beloved girlfriend, who was waiting for him at home – and the fact that, like John Rambo, he was not honored as a veteran after his return. He loves his pull son Johnny, but then wants to strangle him (“I never wanted it that far …”)? Kove is a charismatic, but not an expressive mime. How little the authors must have believed in him in the 1980s shows the careless handling of role names. His pupil is called – John.
06 Eli “Hawk” Moscowitz (Jacob Bertrand)
“Cobra Kai” was made for figures like him. The pre-uncel tries to compensate for its alleged flaw over the upper lip through striking hairstyles. After his awakening as a karate defender, he becomes a strength man who is difficult to keep on the right track. The secret Sekai-Taikai favorite is a poor soul that determines happiness and misfortune to the outside. Its difficult friendship with Demetri offers one of the most beautiful side narrative strands. Even the phase with the bedwetting and subsequent arm break survived this friendship.
05 Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan)
The most complex figure from the main teenagers. An underprivileged boy neglected by his father. A climber, often without a stop, who was the only one to go through all three do-Jos, Cobra Kai, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang. Probably also more competent on the mat as Miguel. His reconciliation with father Johnny Lawrence was heart -soft. Unfortunately, Robby has also become a little uninteresting after reconciliation with Migi. As a harmonizer, he does a good job, but is no longer so important in the ensemble.
04 Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio)
The karate kid. An astonishing change. And a brave sign of producer and leading actor Ralph Macchio to develop this figure in this way. The fact that Daniel Naiv, maybe never a man with the greatest dreams (whenever money was available for college, he spent on a trip to Japan with Mister Miyagi or for a tree nursery for Mister Miyagi) did not ultimately lead him to the university, but … in the possession of a car dealership. But what can you say. The other, second life didn’t get him any better. As an art -relieving piano player who is boring in a beach villa and eats vegan? Thomas Ian Griffith is a gifted, time of his career under sales actor. As a figure, Silver is perhaps not as complex as John Kreese (not even his backstory), but a threatening opponent of the good that does not exist. Larusso trembles when he hears him “Dannyboy”, and Silvers appearance in the sauna is a highlight of the series. Silvers Aura is so devastating that Larusso even becomes an alcoholic and his wife leaves him. Keep your fingers crossed that the master of Gaslighting can get it out of prison for season 6 in good time.
01 Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka)
When Zabka and Ralph Macchio decided to count the “Karate Kid”, nobody would have thought of how triumphant and hot loved one could be the Loser Johnny Lawrence. And what comedic potential Zabka has. He is the star – not macchio. He is the man we see or rather: want to see falling because his subsequent ascents are so admirable. His figure also brings the older spectators back to the 80s, because Johnny listens to the right music, he knows the right “Rocky” film, he pushes the right people out of the track while when walking, and he wears this incredibly chic retro shirt with the zebra on the chess board. With all the slapstick, it should not be forgotten how great his scenes are with the lost son Robbie, and how difficult it is to accept the navel Miguel. And with all aversion to Daniel Larusso: What has not yet been discussed in the series is Johnny’s feeling for fairness. He may have lost to Daniel in the “U-18 All Valley” and accuse him of the use of the “unfair” crane for ages.
