Linkin Park will play in the Allianz Arena Munich in 2026 – not in the Olympic Stadium. Why actually?
Linkin Park are coming to Munich and playing on June 11th and 12th at the Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich. But why actually there? Here we answer the question asked by travelers, to which most Munich residents already know the answer.
When you think of legendary open-air concerts by big stars in Munich, you probably most likely imagine them in the Olympic Stadium. The likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran have performed there. Why are Linkin Park playing in the football stadium now? There is a simple answer to this, but it involves considerable effort.
Olympic Stadium under renovation
Construction has been going on diligently since autumn 2025: The Olympic Stadium in Munich’s Olympic Park is currently being renovated. That’s why the last big shows in the arena took place in 2025 – and the stars will have to move to other stages in 2026.
There is actually no stage in the Allianz Arena. There is usually football on the grass – if at all, singing takes place up in the fan curves, and usually not in the highest musical quality. So it’s time to make the football stadium a concert venue. Because it’s not just Linkin Park who are moving there – the Foo Fighters, BTS and Helene Fischer will also be playing in the Allianz Arena this summer.
Alternatives until 2029
Concerts in the Olympic Stadium should be possible again by 2029. But until then, alternatives are needed: the Allianz Arena, but also the Riem exhibition center and Königsplatz are already tried-and-tested open-air alternatives in Munich. Hosting the music events in the Bayern Arena is only possible because the open-air concerts fall during the summer break of the football season. Because some adjustments have to be made to the system for the stage shows.
311 tons of turf and a new backstage
First step: The lawn has to go. A total of 311 tons of grass were milled off, as the “Augsburger Allgemeine” reports. It took three days. Because where the Bayern players usually gasp, Linkin Park fans will soon throw themselves into the mosh pit. The grass pitch was then replaced with paving slabs. Craftsmen also built a special backstage area where the team buses would otherwise arrive. In addition, there was a need for marked escape routes from the interior for the public.
So there was a lot to do to get the Allianz Arena ready for Linkin Park on Thursday. Their stage can then be used by the Foo Fighters, who will also be playing in Munich on June 17th. The Weeknd (June 25th, 26th and 27th), BTS (July 11th and 12th) and Helene Fischer (July 17th), however, are all bringing their own stages. Then it’s time again: renovations in the Allianz Arena.
