For Dorothea Wierer the final season of her career is upon us. The biathlon superstar now spoke about his goals for the upcoming winter.

“It’s a strange feeling that I’ve never experienced before. The knowledge that my sports career is coming to an end at the end of this season makes me curious on the one hand – on the other hand it raises a lot of questions to which I still don’t have the answers,” said Wierer in an interview with “sportnews.bz”.

The Italian made very few changes in preparation for the season. “Of course, an Olympic year always means a higher level of concentration and commitment,” emphasized the 35-year-old, but noted: “At the same time, the fact that it is my last season has enabled us to tailor the training even more individually to me – without taking the years afterwards into account.”

Wierer is currently working on the Olympic fine-tuning in Norway. “Then we’ll go home for about six days. During this short phase it will be important to relax the body and mind again. The work is then done – and the season can begin. It finally starts in Östersund at the end of the month,” she looked forward full of anticipation.

Wierer has not set any specific goals for her farewell season. Nevertheless, the four-time world champion emphasized: “To be honest, I don’t want to think about it too much, even though a victory would of course be a nice goal. I’m doing everything I can to be in the best possible shape in the World Cup – and later at the Olympic Games.”

Biathlon star Wierer dreams of Olympic gold

The fact that she is still without a gold medal at the Olympic Games doesn’t play a big role for Wierer, but: “A medal is not a must, but yes, gold would of course be the best end to my career.”

The biathlon season starts with the World Cup opener on November 29th in Östersund, Sweden. The Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo begin on February 6, 2026.
