That is why the Berlin election is also important for Brandenburg

The repeat election to the Berlin House of Representatives is also of great interest for the neighboring state of Brandenburg. Those are the three reasons.

Cooperation: The red-black-green coalition in Brandenburg would like to continue what it says is close and trusting cooperation with Berlin in the future – regardless of the outcome of the election. The Brandenburg state government and the Berlin Senate agreed to cooperate more closely in many areas last year. On October 11, both governments decided to cooperate closely in training, the search for skilled workers, the creation of development axes and the use of water.

The gearing: One is the political will to work together, the other is the need. Berlin and Brandenburg are closely interlinked and can better solve problems such as housing, transport and environmental protection together. This includes, for example, the creation of living space, more offers for commuters, the recruitment of skilled workers and the joint management of water, which is becoming more and more precious.

The heads of government: The goal of closer cooperation between the two countries also has a personal component. Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke and Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey both belong to the SPD – and both come from Brandenburg. While Woidke was born in Naundorf near Forst, Giffey comes from Frankfurt (Oder). She did her Abitur in Fürstenwalde/Spree and then went to Berlin.

On Sunday, Berliners will again elect the House of Representatives and the district assemblies. The September 2021 election has to be repeated because of many glitches.
