Thanks to wildcard: Thiem is allowed to go to the Australian Open

Former US Open winner Dominic Thiem has received a wildcard for the Australian Open.

In the second half of the year, the 29-year-old Austrian improved in the world rankings from outside the top 350 to rank 102, but missed direct qualification.

Thiem, who lost the final in Melbourne to Novak Djokovic in 2020, suffered a serious wrist injury in the 2021 grass season and was then out for nine months.

The Australian Open starts on January 16th.
