Terrifying or boring? Night watchman with mechanical horror dolls | review ★★☆☆☆

Recent research shows that a quarter of Dutch people have a lasting fear of watching horror films. But rest assured: the mental damage you will suffer from the dull horror adventure Five nights at Freddy’s will be nil.

In this video game film adaptation from shivering studio Blumhouse, the troubled Mike Schmidt gets a new job as a security guard. He becomes the night watchman of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a run-down family restaurant where the mechanical dolls Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy the Pirate were once the biggest attractions. After a few shifts, Mike discovers that this foursome has a mind of its own and goes on a killing spree between midnight and six in the morning.

Good-natured cuddly bears

After hits like Get out and The black phone the renowned horror house Blumhouse is now treating you to an unexpectedly disappointing nail-biter. That’s the biggest problem Five nights at Freddy’s never really gets scary. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy – created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop – look more like good-natured teddy bears than terrifying demons.

The story is very far-fetched even by horror standards. The dolls appear to be possessed by the spirits of murdered children. And they in turn are in contact with Garrett, the little brother of night watchman Mike who was once kidnapped and killed. Are you still there? No, choose another horror film around Halloween. Of Talk to me , The nun II , The exorcist: Believer and Saw In any case, the choice is huge.
