Seven-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix40, returns to the racetrack. Felix tells For Time magazine in his interview, that he is aiming for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The races are especially important for the runner, as he is from Los Angeles. The thought of the Olympic competition in front of the home crowd is tantalizing.
– This is a once-in-a-lifetime homecoming. And also the only thing powerful enough to make me come back, says Felix.
The dream of the Olympics began to develop with the husband, an ex-university runner by Kenny Ferguson with a year ago.
Felix gets inspired Lindsey Vonn’s, LeBron James’s and Tom Brady’s like sports stars who are still successful in their forties. She wants to break the expectations of women in their forties.
– So many of us have been told that it’s not worth doing the next big thing that requires courage. At this age, you should probably be at home taking care of the children. I thought why not turn the setting upside down.
Not for the money
Felix describes his return as a test of where an individual’s potential can reach.
He begins full training with his longtime coach Bobby Kerseen with in October. Before competing, there is a grace period in accordance with the anti-doping rules, because the Olympic champion has been outside the doping testing system since the end of his career.
Felix believes that he will be able to compete in 2027. The intention is not to compete regularly around the world, because the star wants to stay close to his 7- and 2-year-old children.
Felix emphasizes that the return is not about money.
– Athletics is not a sport that you return to for money, the runner laughs.
Felix ended his sports career after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. He won the 400m Olympic bronze and the 4x400m relay gold in Tokyo.
Felix has won 11 Olympic medals and 20 World Cup medals on outdoor tracks. The American runner has 14 world championships.
No American sprinter has qualified for the Olympics over the age of 40.
