National soccer goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is making progress after the back injury he suffered last fall.
“I missed this feeling,” the 31-year-old from FC Barcelona wrote about a picture on X (formerly Twitter) that shows him in training clothes with a ball in his hand. “I feel refreshed and excited to be training again,” he wrote.
Ter Stegen had to undergo an operation at the end of last year. The goalkeeper also missed the DFB team’s two test matches in November against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2) because of back problems.
He could be fit again for the upcoming games in France and against the Netherlands in March – although long-time number one Manuel Neuer is also likely to return to the DFB squad for the first time in over a year. National coach Julian Nagelsmann is therefore faced with the decision as to which goalkeeper will be preferred with a view to the home European Championships in the summer.
