The conflict between Marc-André Ter Stegen and FC Barcelona seemed to escalate. But now the German keeper made a U -turn.
It was an unusual picture that offered the fans at Estati Johan Cruyff in Barcelona on Sunday. Then the FC Barcelona team was lined up in the field and was probably just as excited as the spectators what Marc-André Ter would say. The goalkeeper took a microphone in his hand, rummaged out a note and held a speech – after weeks of the little war he showed himself conciliatory between him and the club.
“For me personally, it was important to clarify the matter between the club and me, and now it is time to look ahead,” said the 33-year-old before the game for the Joan-Gamper trophy against the Italian club Como 1907. “We look forward to the start of the season, which will be demanding,” continued: “We have worked hard to be successful.” He welcomed the newcomers and assured them of his support: “With them we will be a better, stronger team.”
The thanks to the German national keeper also went to coach Hansi Flick, the coach had held back publicly in the Posse around the long -time captain of the team in the past few weeks. Flick did not strengthen his compatriot or took a position for the sporting board.
When it was about a week ago whether Ter Stegen was allowed to keep his captain’s armband, Flick said that this was usually a decision that the team made two weeks before the start of the season. He stays out of it. Previously, the club leadership had threatened that he losing his captain’s office if he did not agree to the disclosure of his doctor’s report.
After his back operation, the goalkeeper had spoken of a downtime of just three months in a social media post. Because the ex-Gladbacher had apparently refused his club afterwards to forward his injury report to the medical commission of the league, the big one had occurred.
If the league like the club comes to the conclusion that Ter Stegen fails for at least four months after its back operation, FC Barcelona could register the recently committed Joan García as a replacement in the goal of the Catalan just in time for the beginning of the new season. Because only with such a minimum loss of four months, according to the financial fair play rules applicable in Spain, the association can use part of the sloper’s salary-in the case of Stegen-to register a new player.
The Catalans had signed García in summer as the new number one of Espanyol Barcelona for around 25 million euros. As long as he is not registered, he must not play. In order to put pressure on the steps, the association had initiated a disciplinary procedure against the goalkeeper. Now there is the U -turn. The Spanish specialist newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” therefore wrote from a “ceasefire” for the advantage of everyone.
