The tensions between FC Bayern and the DFB regarding Lena Oberdorf tips. The international’s European Championship participation becomes a stimulus topic.

Between FC Bayern Munich and the German Football Association (DFB) it crunches-and the reason is borne number six. Lena Oberdorf could play a key role at the European Championship in Switzerland. But FC Bayern has great concerns to use the national player again at this level so early after her long injury break. National coach Christian Wück, on the other hand, also adheres to the option of nomination – despite the lack of a game practice.

The midfielder had suffered a cruciate ligament rupture last summer and has not been on the pitch since then. Also at the cup final against Bremen, she was not in the squad on Thursday – although she hoped for a short assignment. Now there are only two Bundesliga and two caps up to the European Championship to get back into competition mode.

Wück continues to participate in Oberdorf. He wants to give her the time to make progress in the next eight weeks. A few weeks ago, Wück said that he also trusted Oberdorf for the European Championship with little game practice. Now he explained: “It would be negligent if we were already close to the door.”

From the DFB’s point of view, Oberdorf is a player who can make the difference in midfield. If there is only a little chance that she will get fit until the tournament, Wück is planning with her. Even if that was clear shortly before the first kick -off, he joked last.

It looks very different at Bayern. Women’s football director Bianca Rech makes it clear: “She is in team training. But she is not up to date that she can play a European championship.” Trainer Alexander Straus also refers to “medical questions”.

As the “picture” reports, Bayern are very concerned that Oberdorf will be used again too early. The risk of a new injury should not be underestimated-especially since the 23-year-old was already considered prone to injury in the past. The club’s wish is therefore clear: Oberdorf should not complete the season preparation for the European Championship, but instead with the team.

The sporting management of FC Bayern apparently does not want to take any risk – even with a view to the coming season. The danger that Oberdorf would be heated after the long break is too great if she was under full competitive pressure at the tournament.

Legally, the DFB Oberdorf could nominate for the European Championship – even without previous missions. Like all national players, it is subject to the obligation to provide duty. However, Wück emphasizes that the decision is lying to the player: “Lena will make her alone because she knows her body.”

Oberdorf himself had emphasized several times in the past few weeks to want to be “extremely happy” at the European Championship. At the same time, she expressed doubts as to whether she could already help in her current state. She needs game practice to get back to the top level – and that is barely expected at the moment at Bavaria.
