Tens of thousands of German protesters demand more climate action | Abroad

In Berlin, according to police, 22,000 protesters had gathered in the Invalidenpark, near the government district, for a protest march. The organizers spoke of 36,000 participants who want an accelerated end to the use of fossil fuels and an accelerated expansion of the share of renewable energy.

It was the eleventh time that FfF, founded in 2018 by Sweden’s Gretha Thunberg, has called on the supporters to take action. “Anyone who thinks there is no way out is left in despair. Anyone who knows that things will be different can start and act. We have that knowledge, so we throw ourselves into this case,” said German FfF activist Luisa Neubauer .

Large-scale meetings were also held in Hamburg and more than two hundred other cities. In Vienna, authorities reported at least 12,000 environmentalists on the streets of the capital. Demonstrations were also held on Friday in Paris, Lyon and elsewhere in France, in New Delhi and Jakarta.
