Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the Spanish capital Madrid on Saturday to demand the resignation of Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. People close to the Spanish Prime Minister are suspected of corruption.

According to the organization of the event, a group of about 150 civil associations, there were 80,000 demonstrators. The Madrid police estimated 40,000 demonstrators. The demonstrators carried Spanish flags and banners that read, among other things: “Corruption has a price. No more impunity. Resign and elections now!”.
The demonstration received the support of the Spanish conservative People’s Party Partido Popular (PP) and the far-right party VOX. “There is no one left in Pedro Sánchez’s immediate environment who has not been accused of serious crimes. Spain is being held hostage by a corrupt mafia,” Vox leader Santiago Abascal emphasizes.
Investigations are underway into possible corruption and conflicts of interest against politicians from the socialist ruling party PSOE and Prime Minister Sánchez’s wife, Begona Gomez. She is said to have abused her position as a partner of the Prime Minister to obtain sponsors for the master’s program she led at the university.
Sánchez currently leads a minority government that depends on the support of Catalan and Basque separatists to pass bills in parliament in Madrid.
