Wednesday is the big day: Jannik Sinner is back. The South Tyrolean returns to the court two and a half weeks after the historic victory at the Australian Open against Daniil Medvedev: the Italian will make his debut in this edition of the 500 tournament in Rotterdam facing Botic Van de Zandschulp, an opponent who was swept away in the first round in Melbourne. Sinner will be on the pitch no earlier than 7.30pm, while at lunchtime he will be up to Lorenzo Sonego in the challenging test against one of the most informed players in recent months, Grigor Dimitrov.

OBJECTIVE N. 3

The Bulgarian trained together with Sinner on the eve of their debut in the tournament. Jannik is pumped up, he unplugged a bit after Melbourne but not too much: after the stop in Rome – between meeting with Sergio Mattarella, press conference and photos at the Colosseum – he immediately resumed training at 100%. Already in the capital, between one commitment and another, the class of 2001 found a way to spend some time in the gym. The Rotterdam tournament is a great opportunity for Sinner: in case of victory, Jannik will overtake Medvedev in the rankings (the Russian had beaten him last year in the final and will not be there) becoming number 3 in the ranking for the first time. If Jannik beats Van de Zandschulp, he will find one of Monfils and Shapovalov in the round of 16, on the pitch in the first match at 11am, before Sonego.

THE RESULTS

We are in the upper part of the scoreboard, that of Jannik, in which Bublik (6-3 6-4 to Coric) and Raonic (7-6 6-4 to De Jong, another player beaten by Sinner in Australia) also won. In the lower part, in the round of 16 there will be the challenge between Rublev (number 2 seed, 7-5 6-3 to Bergs) and Auger-Aliassime (the Canadian beat Cressy on Monday) and the pairing between De Minaur (6-4 6-3 to Korda) and Goffin, who had ousted Prizmic on Monday, is also defined. Victories also for Fucsovics against his compatriot Maroszan (the Hungarian expects one of Sonego or Dimitrov), Shevchenko against Zhang (expects Rune or Safiullin) and Struff, who closed the comeback against Davidovich Fokina in the decisive tie break. Moving on from Rotterdam, some good news arrives from the other side of the world: on the pitch of Buenos Aires, Andrea Vavassori beat the Brazilian Seyboth Wild and will challenge Laslo Djere in the round of 16.
