Tennis player Tsitsipas extends title in Monte Carlo

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the Monte Carlo masters tournament for the second year in a row. The number 5 in the world was too strong for the Spanish surprise Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final on the clay in two sets: 6-3 7-6 (3). The 23-year-old Tsitsipas captured his eighth title on the ATP Tour, his first of this year.

Davidovich Fokina, the number 46 in the world, was in Monte Carlo for the first time in the final of an ATP tournament. The 22-year-old Spaniard had surprised Novak Djokovic in the second round. After the world number 1 he also defeated David Goffin, Taylor Fritz and Grigor Dimitrov. Tsitsipas had beaten Alexander Zverev, the German number 3 in the global ranking, in the semifinals.

The Greek reached the semifinals of the Australian Open at the beginning of this year and reached the final battle in Rotterdam. Tsitsipas lost out to Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime.
