Tennis: Niemeier fails in the round of 16

Tennis player Jule Niemeier from Dortmund was eliminated in the round of 16 at the indoor tournament in Linz.

One day after her first win of the season in the main draw of a WTA event, the 24-year-old lost to Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 3:6, 0:6. This means that all German players have been eliminated from the $922,573 tournament in Austria. The former world number one Angelique Kerber had already lost in the first round.

Qualifier Niemeier survived at least one round against Anna Blinkova (Russia), but the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist is still waiting for a lasting breakthrough after months of form crisis. At the start of the season she was eliminated from qualifying in Auckland, New Zealand and at the Australian Open.
