Tamara Korpatsch has cleared the opening hurdle at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in two years. The 31-year-old from Hamburg beat the Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6:4, 6:2 on the first day of the French Open in Paris.

Korpatsch was the only one of the five German women in the main field who was challenged on Sunday. In addition to German number one Laura Siegemund, who will only meet Naomi Osaka on Tuesday, Tatjana Maria, Eva Lys and Ella Seidel are also looking forward to their first appearance on Monday.

Korpatsch had already won a duel against Sorribes Tormo in the qualification in Madrid this year after her opponent gave up. The previous five matches were all for the world number 32. left Castellon.

At the Roland Garros facility, Korpatsch played confidently and earned his success.
