Next turn in the Tara Moore case: The British tennis player has now been closed for four years because of a violation of the anti-doping regulations. This was announced by the International Sports Court CAS on Tuesday evening. The lock begins on July 15th, whereby already served preliminary blocks are counted.
The British violation was found in January 2023 by the Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Moore had given a positive test on the forbidden substances Boldenon and Nandrolon at the WTA tournament in the Colombian capital Bogotá in April 2022. However, Moore claimed that the substances had reached their bodies using contaminated meat. An independent tribunal followed this argument in December 2023 and saw no misconduct.
But the ITIA brought the case in front of the CAS in January 2024 and demanded a four -year lock. After examining the scientific and legal evidence, the majority of the CAS committee now believed that Moore was “not successful” that the Nandrolon concentration in its sample was due to the consumption of contaminated meat. The decision of the independent tribunal was lifted.
“Our bar for an appeal against a first-instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly,” said Karan Moorhouse, CEO of ITIA: “In this case, our independent scientific report was that the player did not explain the high Nandrolon concentration in its sample. The current decision is in line with this point of view.”
