The season is over for defender Mario Hermoso from German football champion Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniard had been injured in the Champions League game against FC Bayern.

The loan player from AS Rome was operated on in the chest muscle area in Madrid due to a tendon injury and can no longer be used until the end of the season. The Bundesliga club announced this on Tuesday (March 18, 2025).

The Spaniard suffered the injury in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Bayern Munich (0-2). The injury occurred in the 31st minute of the game when Hermoso was involved in a duel with Bayern striker Harry Kane.

The Spaniard tried to stop Kane after a throw -in on the right side, which brought him a yellow card. When falling, Hermoso balled his right shoulder, and despite intensive treatment, he had to leave the field in the 38th minute.

Hermoso will complete his rehabilitation in coordination with the Roma in Leverkusen. Bayer borrowed Hermoso at the end of January.
