Ten dismissals! Red scandal in Argentina

The Argentinian World Cup referee Facundo Tello issued ten red cards in a real scandal in the Argentinian Supercup final.

Because the traditional club Boca Juniors had only six professionals on the field in the duel with the Racing Club shortly before the end of the extra time, the match was finally stopped at 1: 2 (1: 1, 1: 1) in accordance with the rules.

After goals from Norberto Briasco (19th) for Boca and Matias Rojas (22nd) for Racing, there was initially nothing to indicate in the final of the Trofeo de Campeones in San Luis that there would be eight red cards and two yellow-red cards – seven (five plus two) of these for Boca.

In injury time, Sebastian Villa (Boca) and Johan Carbonero first clashed and saw red. It was ten against ten in overtime. There, after yellow-red against Bocas, Alan Varela (100th) first scored Carlos Alcaraz (118th) to make it 1-2 for Racing. With his jubilation he provoked the Boca fans and caused a tumult.

As a result, Tello (40), who was nominated by FIFA for the World Cup in Qatar, dismissed goalscorer Alcaraz and Bocas Luis Advincula. In addition, racing player Jonathan Galvan and former Frankfurters Carlos Zambrano and Diego Gonzalez (both Boca) saw red outside the field while warming up.

After that, the duel was restarted, but Boca lost two more players to red cards: Frank Fabra saw the traffic light card after a foul, Dario Benedetto was sent to the shower early for insulting the referee – he had indicated to Tello that he thought he had been bribed. With Boca now down to six players, the referee ended the game in the ninth minute of added time.
