Have you had to think for a long time to extend your contract with Telstar?
“No. This had been playing for a while. It was soon clear that we wanted to continue together. I am just here and I am having a good time. We are working on a plan and are making nice little steps. I would like to continue with that.”
What do you want to achieve?
“We want to put down a stable organization with better facilities than we have now. I want to do that with a players’ group in which we create a culture in which everyone wants to give a huge gas to make a step up with this Telstar. We are well on our way, but there are still not nearly.”
How are you going to do that?
“By improving the facilities and organization. In terms of players, we must be creative and be able to bind the right players to us. Making the right choices especially in collaboration.”
Who or what do you consider as the revelation of the season?
“I’m not going to get an individual out of this collective. I am not going to burn my hands. The biggest revelation has already left. That is Zakaria Eddahchouri. What he has shown before the winter break is impressive. 17 goals in half a season. I have never seen anyone doing that here. Really super special.”
What are your personal ambitions?
“Get this club up with small steps.”
At which club will you be the trainer in five years?
“I never look that far ahead. I find a lot of clubs very beautiful. For now I am working on Telstar. I am not concerned with glass bulbs and my future is not concerned. That is far too far ahead. Live the day.”
So you don’t have a creamy quote that you want to be a Ajax trainer in five years?
“Hahaha. That seems great to me. Is that real? I have no idea. Feyenoord also super. PSV? Sure, but that’s not the point. If I don’t live the day here and get the most out of it, then things like that do not apply at all. Let me get the best version of myself here for the players every day. That also applies to the players. Term.
